Report: Engineer’s union issues strike notice

YOUNGSTOWN

A union in negotiations with the Mahoning County Engineer’s office delivered a 10-day strike notice to the engineer’s office, according to a report by The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Teamsters Local 377 includes 44 employees from the engineer’s office.

Those employees perform road maintenance that includes plowing snow and filling potholes.

The union’s Facebook page currently features a picture of a milk carton with Engineer Pat Ginnetti’s face on it that claims he has been missing from contract negotiations.

The office could avoid a strike if the parties reach a contract within 10 days or if the union decides to extend the notice, WFMJ reported.

At last week’s Mahoning County commissioners meeting, the commissioners voted to reject a fact-finder’s report at the recommendation of Ginnetti.

The Teamsters have been without a contract since April 30, 2017.

Ginnetti told The Vindicator at the time that the fact-finder’s report didn’t adequately address the productivity and delivery of services the public deserves.

Ginnetti said he had not received a strike notice as of Thursday afternoon.
