Lepper Library to host events in April

LISBON

Lepper Library, 303 E. Lincoln Way, will offer the following programs: There will be one-on-one computer help available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday in April. On Monday at 6 p.m., participants will be able to paint a flower pot with supplies provided. At 6 p.m. April 5, Mystery Book Club will take place featuring author John Connolly, and April 7 at 1 p.m. there will be a writer’s group. Call 330-424-3117 to register for any or all events.

Restaurants to raise funds for hospital

BOARDMAN

Boardman restaurants will be participating in Miracle Meals fundraisers to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Chipotle Mexican Grill and BJ’s Brewhouse will be donating a percentage of sales on select days in April. Customers need to present an event flyer at the restaurant in order for the hospital to be eligible for the donation. Chipotle Mexican Grill, 525 Boardman-Poland Road will participate from 4 to 8 p.m. April 7. BJ’s Brewhouse, 7327 Market St., will participate from 1 to 11 p.m. April 12. YSU to host STEM workshop, lecture

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University will host its 21st annual Edward W. Powers Women in STEM career workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. The workshop is designed to expose young women in grades 6 through 12 to career opportunities in STEM. Parents can receive college planning and financial aid information and take campus tours while their daughters participate in the workshop. Registration must be submitted by April 11. The workshop and lunch are free. Information about the workshop and online registration may be found at www.ysu.edu/WIS. The STEM lecture will be at noon April 13 in room 3022, Ward Beecher. Dr. Bargonetti will discuss “The Molecular Choreography of Mutant p53 and MDM2 Proteins in Breast Cancer.” The lecture is free and open to the public. Teacher of the Month recognized

EAST PALESTINE

Will Franklin, teacher at East Palestine Middle School, recently was honored as Teacher of the Month for the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program.

Franklin works with students in grade five through eighth and teaches physical education, fitness for life, weight training and health education. He also coaches football and basketball.
