Concert offers sample of 33 regional bands

The 330 Day concert keeps getting bigger.

The annual event takes place every March 30 (or 3/30) and features top bands from the 330 area code – the footprint for modern rock-radio station The Summit (WKTL-90.7 FM in the Mahoning Valley).

The first 330 day was in 2016 at Jilly’s in Akron. Last year, it was at the Kent Stage in Kent.

This year’s event will be in Akron Civic Theater, and will feature 33 bands. It starts at 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 for general admission seating.

The theater, 182 S. Main St., holds 2,600 people, but the balconies won’t be open, so more like 1,000. Still, that’s the biggest 330 concert venue by far.

The massive stage will be split in half to keep the music flowing. While one band performs under lights, another will be setting up on the other side. All of the bands will play one song in acoustic mode.

“We feel confident that the event will bring a great crowd of local music lovers for the biggest gathering of local talent that I can remember,” said Ryan Humbert, the Akron singer-songwriter who also handles marketing for the Summit. “We have plans in place to make sure it’s comfortable and fun for both the bands and the audience.”

A special Summit package will be available at the show that includes a limited edition 330 poster, a 330 T-shirt and a 330 button – all for $33.

Several Youngstown acts will be among the 33 to perform, including the Vindys, Rick Deak (who is also in the Vindys), Demos Papadimas and the Labra Brothers.

The lineup also includes (in no particular order) Brian Lisik, Ledges, the Kidney Brothers, Tracey Thomas, Stems, Zach, Marc Lee Shannon, Yankee Bravo, Shooter Sharp and the Shootouts, Madison Cummins, Coup de Grace, the Speedbumps, the Cave Twins (David Mayfield and Abby Rose), Run Thomas Run, Royal Vasa, A Band Named Ashes, Alexis Antes, DreamStates, White Buffalo Woman, Cody J. Martin, Flight 619, Nick Wilkinson, By Light We Loom, Jeff Klemm and the Letters, Hey Monea, the Ohio Weather Band, Angie Haze, French Donkey and the Beyonderers.

Smallpools to headline Federal Frenzy fest

The Summit radio team – and the Vindys – also will be in downtown Youngstown on April 21 for the annual Federal Frenzy music and art festival, on the corner of Federal and Phelps streets.

The full lineup hasn’t been released yet, but the headliner will be indie-pop band Smallpools.

The Vindys also have a gig at Music Box on the west bank of the Flats in Cleveland on April 12.

Now in its fourth year, Federal Frenzy runs from 2 to 11 p.m.
