Painting exhibition at Solomon gallery

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s Department of Art announces “Exhibition SITE,” an exhibition of contemporary painting, will open Wednesday with a reception at 5 p.m. in Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, street level of Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University.

The exhibition, presented by the YSU art department, will run through April 20. The gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

“Exhibition SITE” features paintings by Andy Curlowe, Cleveland; Andrea Joki, Cleveland; Matthew Kolodziej, Akron; Eric Lopresti, Brooklyn, NY; and Susanne Slavick, Pittsburgh.

The painters’ work is made in response to specific locations or kinds of spaces – sites. The artists juxtapose visual information into paintings that engage the cognitive processes of sensing, seeing and understanding our relationships with space and time today.

‘The Room’ stars in new movie

“Best F(r)iends,” starring cult-movie heroes of “The Room” Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero, debuts in movie theaters nationwide this spring, including Tinseltown in Boardman. The new Wiseau-Sestero dark comedy thriller is written by Sestero, the best-selling author of “The Disaster Artist,” which was adapted into an Oscar nominated film.

Inspired by a road trip made by Sestero and Wiseau in April 2003, “Best F(r)iends” will be released in two volumes, for two nights each. It will be screened March 30 and April 2, with “Best F(r)iends: Volume Two” following on June 1 and June 4, all at 8 p.m. local time. The feature includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and outtakes.
