Warren City Health District, 258 E. Market St., is offering a two-part program – a health screening from 9 to 11 a.m. April 12 and a presentation from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 26, when participants can get test results and learn what the numbers mean. The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Call 330-841-2596.

On April 12, Mercy Health will draw a hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides and do blood pressure screening. Participants must fast 12 hours prior to the test.

The Warren City Health District’s childhood immunization schedule for April and June is: April 9 and 23, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.; May 7 and 21, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.; and June 11 and 25, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

No appointment is required. The child should be well and free of fever, rash or illness. An updated shot record is required. There is a $21.25 administration fee. Medicaid is accepted; bring an insurance card.

Care staff job fair

Amputee workshop

An amputee empowerment workshop, free to all amputees, family and friends in the Mahoning Valley, is from noon to 6 p.m. April 28 at Western Reserve O&P Centre, 6431 Mahoning Ave., in recognition of April as Limb Loss Awareness Month.

Darrius Simmons, a double amputee who has performed at Carnegie Hall as a pianist, is a musical guest; and a panel of patient advocates and doctors will speak on advances in the industry and answer questions. Healthy-lifestyle workshop

Daniel Winkle, M.D., is presenting “Mindful Living with Hillside,” a free healthy-lifestyle workshop focusing on using mind-body-medicine, breath and movement for better health. It is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, 8747 Squires Lane N.E.

Winkle, medical director at Hillside who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, will explain how to restore physical, emotional, and psychological health using breath and movement. The workshop will be hands-on, with participants instructed to go at their own pace. Wearing comfortable clothing is advised.

Colorectal cancer awareness month

March is national colorectal cancer awareness month, and Ohio, recognized nationally for improving colorectal cancer screenings, is one of many at the forefront increasing awareness and improving screenings of colorectal cancer for those 50 and older.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the third leading cancer killer in the United States. In 2018, it is expected to cause roughly 50,630 deaths.
