Solid pitching leads YSU baseball to 2 wins

The Youngstown State University baseball team swept Northern Kentucky in a doubleheader on Saturday at Eastwood Field.

The Penguins won the first game 3-1 by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

YSU third baseman Web Charles put the Penguins up 2-1 with a two-out single to left field to score Drew Dickerson.

Former South Range pitcher Greg Dunham picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits in 61/3 innings.

Ursuline graduate Joel Hake pitched a scoreless 11/3 innings of relief. West Branch graduate Kip DeShield picked up his second save.

In game two, YSU pitcher Collin Floyd pitched seven scoreless innings of a 9-2 win. He struck out eight and allowed three hits and two walks.

The Penguins scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
