Movie academy chief denies engaging in sexual misconduct

The president of the motion picture academy is denying he engaged in sexual misconduct.

In a memo sent to staff of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, President John Bailey said an allegation that he attempted to touch a woman inappropriately a decade ago on a movie set is untrue.

Bailey also said in the Friday memo that media reports linking him to misconduct are false. He said the claims serve only to tarnish his 50-year career as a cinematographer, adding that he expects to be exonerated.

The academy itself has refused to acknowledge the existence of the investigation, saying that it keeps complaints confidential to protect all parties. It will not comment until reviews are completed and reported to its Board of Governors, the academy said.

‘Melrose Place’ actress faces 2nd resentencing

NEWARK, N.J.

A former “Melrose Place” actress convicted in a fatal auto crash must return to court for a second resentencing.

A New Jersey appeals court in 2016 ordered the first resentencing after prosecutors contended Amy Locane’s three-year sentence for the 2010 crash was too lenient.

In January 2017, the judge re-imposed the same sentence. On Friday, an appeals court ruled the judge didn’t follow its earlier ruling and didn’t take the crime’s severity into account.

A different judge will conduct the resentencing.

Locane served about two-and-a-half years of a three-year sentence for the 2010 accident in Montgomery Township that killed 60-year-old Helene Seeman and seriously injured Seeman’s husband, Fred.
