The Austintown library hosted a true crime program based around the Black Dahlia case on Feb. 26.
Librarian Lindsay Platt led discussion on the famous murder case. The small group met in the small meeting room. Each member brought in details and their own thoughts about the unsolved crime.
The program is a natural extension to Platt’s Mystery and Tea book club. The book club focuses on mystery novels. The cases she has covered and currently plans to discuss with her true crime program have not been solved; however, they do have quite a few theories surrounding them.
The discussion deviated from the Black Dahlia case and moved into similar cases at some point, with connections being made between the cases. They also began to talk about the operations and future meetings of the group in general.
Previously, the group talked about the “Jack the Ripper“ killings in London during the January meeting. Future meetings will cover the Zodiac Killer on Mar. 26, the JonBenet Ramsey case on Apr. 23 and a reader’s choice discussion on May 21.
Platt gave each member a packet of materials relating to the cases that the attendees could check out at the library. The materials include numerous books and a few documentaries for each topic. She used Piu Marie Eatwell’s “Black Dahlia, Red Rose: The Crime, Corruption, and Cover-Up of America’s Greatest Unsolved Murder“ as her reading material for the discussion this month.
She gave the members the choice to change the last two topics if they wanted. She gave a list of some possible ideas, such as the Long Island Killer, the death of Tupac Shakur and the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.
