St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, will host a quarter auction March 17 for Justine Ula Keller, 27, who is fighting her third battle with Ewing’s sarcoma. FUNDRAISERS

Girard Multi-Generational Center’s annual fundraiser “Cars are the Stars 4” will include two special raffles this year. Winners will be announced the day of the show, June 2 (rain date, June 9). Tickets are $5 for each raffle. The first raffle is for a 55-inch 4K UHD TV, and the second is for a $250 Visa gift card sponsored by Windsor House Inc. Winners do not need to be present, and all proceeds will benefit the center. Purchase tickets at the center, 443 Trumbull Ave., Girard, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Newton Falls Preservation Foundation will present “An intimate Afternoon with Folk Legends” at 2 p.m. March 18 at Roby Lee’s Restaurant, 425 Ridge Road, Newton Falls. The event will feature the music of Alex Bevan, Jim Ballard, Jim Gill and Tim Cole. Tickets are $25, which includes food. The cost for a VIP table is $400, which includes a front-row table, eight tickets, food and two bottles of wine. Only nine front-row tables are available. Proceeds will benefit efforts to save the historic USO/community center building. St. Stephen Church of Niles will host its annual “Luck of the Irish” fundraiser March 17 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center, 123 N. Main St., Niles. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling 330-652-4396. The event will include a buffet dinner, desserts and an open bar. There will be more than $7,000 worth of cash and other prizes that include jackpots of $500, $750 and $1500; a lottery tree; a restaurant gift-card tree; and a gift basket auction as well as other ways to win. New this year in the live auction will be 12 seats for an April 22 dinner to be prepared by the Rev. James Korda, president of the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown and administrator of St. Stephen Church and host of the Wineskins program, and Lisa Abraham, cookbook author and retired food editor of the Columbus Dispatch and Akron Beacon Journal. They will offer a six-course meal, complete with wine pairings and narration, which they will serve for 12 people who bid the highest for a seat at the table.

Churchill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty, is hosting its “Grief Share” program for all who have suffered a loss. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and take place every Thursday through April 19. The meetings will take place on the second floor of the church’s educational building.

Sales

Friends of the Library Columbiana will host a book sale for the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 17 at Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St. Paperback books, 25 cents; hardbacks, 50 cents; and audio/visual material, $1. Beginning at 4 p.m., $3 for a bag of books.

Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothing for the entire family. March continues winter clearance. All inventory is $1 each and includes men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. Party dresses and mothers-of-the-bride/groom dresses are 75 percent off. White tickets (new spring items) and jewelry are not on sale. Shop and save money. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be a bake sale and food stand both days. For information, call the church at 330-549-2333.

Salem Historical Society will host a sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave., Salem. There will be furniture, collectibles, household items, books, records and more. Proceeds will benefit the society’s trolley fund.

GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host “Tea & Polite Society” at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor Drive, on Saturday at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 per person. The event will feature tea sandwiches, desserts, special herbal teas, a basket raffle and selection of tea cups. Proceeds will benefit local schools and women’s charities. Sutliff Museum is exhibiting a collection of teapots that features ceramic and stoneware teapots collected from all over the world, including Taiwan and Japan. This exhibit is open through April. Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a “Donate a Hot Dog” campaign to help provide food to the area’s homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie’s customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

TRIPS and tours

AARP 4611 East, Youngstown, will host an overnight trip to Lancaster, Pa., April 6 and 7 to the Sight & Sound Millenium Theatre to see the production of “Jesus.” Cost is $300 for double occupancy with the first payment of $50 due with reservation. Junior League of Youngstown will host a round trip from Youngstown to New York City from April 13 to 15. Tickets are available until March 14, and payment plans will be accepted but must be paid in full by March 14. Tickets are transferable if unable to attend. No cash refunds will be issued. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Pink Ribbon Golf Club Classic 2018 committee is sponsoring a bus trip to Seneca Allegheny Casino April 14. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The bus will leave from Fab Tours & Travel, 3681 Connecticut Ave., Youngstown, at 8 a.m. and will depart Seneca at 5 p.m. Cost is $40 per person, and each player will receive $25 in play and a $5 food coupon. Trumbull County Travel Club will host a trip to Oklahoma City, and Branson, Mo. with stops in St. Louis and Casey, Ill. The motor coach is scheduled for departure from Howland on April 16 and will return April 22. Members will visit Oklahoma City with a tour of the Oklahoma City National Memorial, historic Bricktown, the Cowboy Museum and shopping in the stockyard area. The trip also will feature three days in Branson, with three shows and tickets to the Titanic Exhibit before departing for the St. Louis Gateway Arch and Casey, Ill. A summer mini-vacation to the Finger Lakes Region will take place in June, and in October, a “Fall Scenic Tour” is planned to Boston, Cape Cod and Southern New England. Membership in the Trumbull County Travel Club is available to anyone 21 and older who has a desire to see new places, meet new friends and travel in a safe environment.
