Canfield band needs 76 trombones

The Canfield Community Concert Band is inviting trombone players to join in for a performance of The Music Man’s “Seventy Six Trombones.” The concert will be July 3 at Austintown Township Park. Free dance lessons for vets on Wednesday

To honor veterans and retirees, dance champions Kyrylo Myshakov and Oksana Sidak will be offering free ballroom and Latin dance lessons from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. No reservations are necessary. Lessons, which will include foxtrot, rumba, waltz, tango, salsa, swing (jitterbug), cha cha and hustle, will take place at Fred Astaire Warren Studio, 4365 Youngstown Road.

Heritage Center to host series

The July installment of the 2018 Sunday Speaker Series will feature a lecture designed to explore the history of how society dresses. Patricia Edmonson, Museum Advisory Council Curator of Costume and Textiles, Western Reserve Historical Society, will give a presentation titled ‘Wow Factor: 150 Years of Collecting Bold Clothes’ from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kinsman House, 303 Mahoning Ave. “Wow Factor” examines how fashion triggers emotion with beauty, craftsmanship, rarity, and humor. This program is in partnership with the Warren Heritage Center, and is sponsored by Paige & Byrnes Insurance. Light refreshments will be served. This program is free. Ursuline Sister to host journaling workshop

Ursuline Sister of Youngstown Eileen Kernan will explore how the ancient tradition of journaling can help dialog with inner wisdom, gain insight and discern how movement will guide the future. There is no prerequisite to attend these classes, which are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Aug. 2, and Sept. 6 at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road. Call 330-799-4941 for reservations.
