Boardman’s West Boulevard and Stadium Drive elementary schools had a joint concert in the high school’s Boardman Performing Arts Center.
The concert, titled “This is America,” featured both school’s fourth grade classes singing patriotic songs. Music teacher Robert Pavalko directed the students through the performance. Students from the group introduced each of the songs they sang.
Pavalko teaches at two of the four elementary schools during the first two nine-week periods of school and then teaches the other two schools during the other two nine-week periods. He already had performances at Robinwood Lane and Market Street elementary schools earlier in the school year.
The first song, “This is America,” demonstrated some of the things the students learned in the class, such as the ability to have two parts sing at once. The Stadium Drive students had one part, while the West Boulevard students had another.
The also sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” and “I Love My Country,” the latter of which the students performed the lyrics of in American Sign Language while singing. They then went into “America My Home,” and “Fifty Nifty United States.” Then, the groups sang “You Are Our Heroes,” as a thank you to the veterans.
Pavalko took some time to speak about how pleased he was with the community for voting to pass the school levy and thanked the fourth-grade students for their hard work. He then directed the students during the final song of the evening, “Blue and Red and White.”
