Austintown Community Church Preschool Childcare Center announces new director

Neighbors | Submitted.Recently Cindy Ellashek was presented with the 2018 Unsung Heroes Award at Austintown Community Church (A.C.C.) by Pastor Mark Nelson, for her 34 years of dedicated service to children and families of Austintown and as the Director of the A.C.C. Preschool Childcare Center. After 34 years of employment, Cindy Ellashek has decided to retire. Taking over the position will be Amy Teeters.

A change in leadership is being announced at Austintown Community Church (A.C.C.) Preschool Childcare Center, in Austintown. After 34 years of employment, 22 of which were in the position of director, Cindy Ellashek has decided to retire.

Ellashek first became known to A.C.C. as a parent who loved being with the young children. As the school grew, there was a need to hire an aide and she was approached by the director, Bev Miller, to fill the position. Ellashek soon became the librarian story-teller and later moved to a teaching position. She became an assistant to the director running the summer camp program for one year. After years of experience, training and college classes, Ellashek became the director when Miller retired.

According to Ellashek, her time there has been blessed. She loved her job and has, “grown professionally, personally and most importantly, spiritually. I leave the preschool childcare program in very good hands and I have total peace in my heart and confidence in this decision.”

Although, Ellashek will be greatly missed, the staff at A.C.C. wishes her the best in her retirement.

Taking over for Ellashek in the director position is Amy Teeters. Teeters is also a former parent of A.C.C students and enjoys spending time with children. At that time, she was approached by a staff member and told she should apply for a teaching position. Teeters became a lead teacher for nine years. The A.C.C. Preschool Childcare Center Board of Directors decided to hire Teeters to replace Ellashek as director, because of her years of experience, especially at A.C.C., her past trainings, education and her strong faith, as well as her strong leadership qualities.

Teeters graduated from Youngstown State University with an associate degree in Early Childhood Education with high honors, and received the Student of the Year award. She is a United States Navy Veteran and served as a Radioman (Communications) from 1989-1993. She has traveled around the world to countries including Scotland, Bermuda and Guam. She has been married for 14 years to Scott Teeters, and has three children, Zac Cady, serving in the United States Army, Erin Cady. a sophomore in high school, and Ian Teeters, who is entering eighth grade.

“I am very excited to start this new journey in my career and believe that with the guidance and love of Jesus in my heart, I will be able to continue to provide the high-quality standards that Mrs. Ellashek has brought here during her tenure,” Teeters said.

The staff at A.C.C. are excited and supportive of Teeters becoming director and believe this change will continue to help the preschool childcare center grow and keep the traditions that it has been known for the past 49 years. They also believe that she will continue to support the development of children socially, emotionally, physically, academically and spiritually.

The A.C.C. Preschool Childcare Center, located at 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road (State Route 46) in Austintown, is open 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registrations for the summer program, which has already begun, and the new school year are now being accepted for Preschoolers ages 3-5 and school aged children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
