BALTIMORE

Kyle Seager homered and hit a pivotal two-run single in the eighth inning to back a fine pitching performance by James Paxton and help Seattle beat Baltimore. Paxton (7-2) struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing two runs and six hits. Alex Colome worked the eighth and Edwin Diaz got three outs for his big league-best 29th save.

Red Sox 9, Angels 1

BOSTON

Mookie Betts homered on John Lamb’s first pitch of the game, and J.D. Martinez hit his major league-leading 24th home run to back David Price’s six strong innings and lead Boston. Slump-busting Jackie Bradley Jr. had four RBIs and three hits, including a home run.

Astros 7, Blue Jays 0

HOUSTON

Charlie Morton struck out 13 in seven stellar innings, Jake Marisnick hit a three-run homer in the eighth after preserving the shutout with a big defensive play in the sixth as Houston got a win over Toronto. Morton (10-1) scattered four hits and walked two for his third straight win to become Houston’s first 10-game winner.

Athletics 9, Tigers 7

DETROIT

Jed Lowrie drove in the tiebreaking run in the top of the ninth inning for a second straight game, and Oakland rallied from six runs down to beat Detroit, handing the Tigers their seventh straight loss. Detroit led 6-0 after three innings, but Oakland came back to tie it at 7-all in the seventh. Lowrie singled home Matt Joyce in the ninth.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Diamondbacks 5, Marlins 3

MIAMI

John Ryan Murphy drove in three runs to help Arizona to a victory over Miami. Zack Godley (9-5) pitched five innings and allowed two runs and six hits for the Diamondbacks, who are 14-4 in their last 18 games. Arizona’s David Peralta had three hits and drove in a run, Jake Lamb had two hits and knocked in one, and Paul Goldschmidt doubled to give him 17 extra-base hits in his last 19 games.

Reds 5, Braves 3

ATLANTA

Matt Harvey pitched six-hit ball into the seventh inning, earning back-to-back wins for the first time this season and leading Cincinnati to a victory over Atlanta. Jesse Winker had three hits and two RBIs for last-place Cincinnati. Scooter Gennett had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the ninth, and scored three times.

INTERLEAGUE

Rays 1, Nationals 0

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Nathan Eovaldi took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before an unusual combination of relievers in the ninth completed a three-hitter as Tampa Bay beat Max Scherzer. Washington’s right-hander, who struck out nine, walked two and hit a batter over six innings.

Yankees 6, Phillies 0

PHILADELPHIA

Luis Severino became the majors’ first 12-game winner, Aaron Hicks and Didi Gregorius homered and the New York Yankees beat Philadelphia. Severino (12-2) struck out nine in seven dominant innings.

Brewers 5, Royals 1

MILWAUKEE

Freddy Peralta pitched one-hit ball over seven scoreless innings, Jesus Aguilar hit one of Milwaukee’s three homers and the Brewers beat Kansas City. Peralta (3-0) allowed a leadoff double in the third to Adalberto Mondesi and also allowed a walk in the second. The 22-year-old rookie was perfect otherwise, striking out 10 in his fourth major league start.

Padres 3, Rangers 2

ARLINGTON, TEXAS

Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe hit run-scoring doubles in San Diego’s three-run eighth inning, helping the Padres rally for a win over Texas. Shin-Soo Choo singled with two outs in the ninth to extend his major league-leading streak of reaching base to 39 games before Brad Hand got Nomar Mazara to fly out with two runners on for his 22nd save.
