1993: President Bill Clinton announces the U.S. launched missiles against Iraqi targets because of “compelling evidence” Iraq had plotted to assassinate former President George H. W. Bush.

2008: The U.S. Supreme Court strikes down a handgun ban in the District of Columbia as it affirms, 5-4, that an individual right to gun ownership exists.

2013: In deciding its first cases on the issue, the U.S. Supreme Court gives the nation’s legally married gay couples equal federal footing with all other married Americans.

1993: Dr. Raymond E. Dye, a former vice president for student affairs at San Francisco State University, is named to the same position at Youngstown State University by the board of trustees.

1968: Ten of Mahoning County’s local school districts probably won’t meet state minimum standards for 1968 if they remain independent, says W.C. Smith, county superintendent. Only Austintown and Boardman would meet state standards.

Vandals using Molotov cocktails started three fires,causing $2,100 damage to Holy Trinity Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church on Laird Avenue. The church has been vacant for three years, the result of dissension within the church.
