Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools will host an auction at 9 a.m. July 3 in the board room at the junior high school, 907 Milton Blvd. The auction is for timber harvesting at the school’s campus. Vendors interested must have a detailed plan of their harvest, size of tree that will be taken, method of payment to be made and how the ground will be restored from the hauling and landing of trees. CRAFT SHOWS

FESTIVALS

Columbiana Wine Fest, set for July 20 and 21, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Town Center at Firestone Farms, 101 Town Center Ave., is selling tickets at area retailers as well as online. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the gate and includes 10 tasting tickets, a souvenir Wine Fest glass and event program. Attendees must be 21 or older to participate. McDonald Fire Department will celebrate its 85th Annual Homecoming Festival nightly from 6 to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The McDonald Historical Society will have a display in the community room from 6 to 8 p.m. each night and will highlight a fireman, a policeman and a millworker. David Martin is the society president and Evelyn Hannon is the curator.

Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, will host a Strawberry Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, rain or shine. Strawberries, ice cream, shortcake, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, snacks and beverages will be served. There will be a 50-50 raffle and a summer basket raffle; winners need not be present. Proceeds benefit PPC Parish Life Committee and PPC youth programs.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 220 N. Walnut St., Youngstown, (across from Choffin), will host its 34th annual Summer Fest food festival July 5 through July 8. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m July 5, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 6 and 7 and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 8. Entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m. July 6 and 7 will be the band Filarakia, which means “the friends,” and DJ Kosta Pizanios will be on hand from noon to 6 p.m. July 8. The event is open to the public.

FUNDRAISERS

Camel Crawl 5k Mud Run and Obstacle Race, 10 a.m. July 14. Park at Kent State Salem for free shuttle to and from race. Entry fee is $65 per person or $55 per person on a team. High school football teams are encouraged to participate in a team-building challenge for a chance to win $250 for the school’s athletic booster club. Pricing for students is $25. Sunshine Golf Outing will take place July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course, Lake Milton. The 13th annual event is is sponsored by Magilla's Sports Bar. Proceeds benefit Rachel Sheridan of Boardman, a sonographer at UPMC Horizon who is battling stage 3 breast cancer. The volunteer committee hosts the event to help cancer sufferers and their families in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to defray medical costs. The outing is a three-person scramble with continental lunch at the turn. A steak fry will take place after the scramble, at Magilla's Sports Bar, 255 Four Mile Run Road, Austintown. Lamppost Farm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using agriculture to reach and teach others through education, hospitality, stewardship, discipleship and quality food, will host Farmageddon 2018, a chew and brew, from 3 to 8 p.m. July 15 at 14900 Market St., Columbiana. Each of five participating breweries will be teamed with a local food truck in a competition designed to showcase a signature brew and complementing chew using Lamppost's meat. Participants vote for their favorite pairing. Ballots will be drawn throughout the evening for prizes. Tickets are $40 per person and include a sampling of food and beer at each of five food truck/brewery pairings, an event pint glass, live music and games. Also available, a “DD package” for two individuals at $70, includes two chew passports and one brew passport. Individuals must be 21 or older to participate in tastings. Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club will host its Tuesday Nite Car Cruise 2018 event July 10 at the Austintown Senior Center. Proceeds will benefit a local child, Leighton Bianco Fearon, 4, who was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that prohibits red blood cell production. A 50-50 raffle will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior center and 5 to 7 p.m. at the car cruise. Proceeds from the raffle and donations will help with Leighton’s medical expenses. The rain date for the event is July 17.

McDonald Track and Cross Country Boosters will host the 17th annual Run of the Mill 1-mile Race on Wednesday at the corner of Marshall Road and Ohio Avenue. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the race will begin at 5:45. Cost is $15 per person.

Austintown Township Park will host the first annual Eye Run in the Sun, a 5K race for vision, July 29. The event is sponsored by Second Sole and proceeds benefit the local efforts of Sight For All United, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide eyecare services to all individuals regardless of their ability to pay. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. A Peachick and Peahen run/walk for children 12 and under will begin at 9, with the 5K to begin at 9:30. Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host First Friday Block Parties from 5 to 8 p.m. July 6 and Aug. 3 on South Main St., Columbiana. The first block of the street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4:30 p.m. and re-open at 8:30. The events include shopping, food, entertainment and special events. Huntington Place Plaza, 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a Mission Night Project from 6 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month through October. Niles Historical Society will participate in Harry Stevens Hot Dog Day from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday in downtown Niles. The Ward-Thomas Museum will not host its usual open house that day. There will be historical books, food and baked goods available for purchase. The event commemorates Harry Stevens, the inventor of the hot dog, baseball scorecard and drinking straw. Also, there will be a Fourth of July Parade, hot dog-eating contest, cornhole tournament, weiner dog race, Miss Niles competition, musical entertainment and more. The Society will host its annual Heritage Day from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 on the museum grounds, 503 Brown St.

St. Brendan Church will host its summer golf outing Aug. 12 at Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, Lowellville. The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Cost is $80 per person and includes green fees, cart, lunch, dinner and beverages. Sutliff Museum's current exhibit will run through August. The exhibit is "Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century," and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of "The Original S'mores" ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a "Donate a Hot Dog" campaign to help provide food to the area's homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie's customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

Veterans' Outreach will host its third annual golf scramble July 6 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Cost is $55 per person or $240 per team. Cost is $20 for the meal only. There will be a 50-50 raffle, basket raffle, doughnuts and coffee in the morning, beverages, dinner buffet and more. Sponsorships are needed and are available at $100 for name displayed as a hole sponsor; and $500 or more sponsors will receive a free foursome, media coverage, catered dinner, snacks, drinks and a banner displayed at the welcome area. Great Conjunction Spiritual Center will host a bus trip to Lily Dale Assembly in Lily Dale, N.Y., on July 21.
