Sutliff Museum to host open house Saturday

The Sutliff Museum, 444 Mahoning Ave., will host a summer open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the season. Participants can take a tour of the museum and enjoy light refreshments. Children of all ages will learn about camping with story time at 2 p.m. and a take-home s’mores craft.
The museum is decorated for the summer months with decorations enhancing the Sutliff family artifacts. A collection of the original s’mores ornaments is on display. Each ornament shows a snowman made out of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones and more. This exhibit is open through August. Free and fully handicapped-accessible. Italian Fest seeks nominations

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest is seeking nominations for its Italian Man and Italian Woman of the Year. If selected, the nominee would be introduced in person at the opening ceremonies downtown at 5 p.m. Aug. 3. Nominations sought for Philanthropy Day
Nominations for the Mahoning-Shenango Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professional’s 2018 National Philanthropy Day awards are now being accepted in the following categories: outstanding philanthropist (individual or family); outstanding corporate philanthropist (for-profit corporation or corporate foundation); outstanding small business philanthropist (100 employees or fewer); outstanding volunteer fundraiser (individual); outstanding volunteer fundraising group (volunteer group); outstanding young philanthropist (individual or group, 18 and under); and the legacy award (presented posthumously to an individual or family).

To be eligible, nominees must reside in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana Counties or in Mercer or Lawrence Counties. The award ceremony will take place Nov. 16 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.
SMS students receive OHSSA awards
STRUTHERS
Three student athletes from Struthers Middle School recently earned awards from the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Leah Barone and Anthony Mudryk have been selected to receive the OHSAA’s Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
This award, named from two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented to one middle school male and female athlete who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship in their school and community.
The National Award of Excellence was presented to Elena Teneva who has also displayed exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.
