The Youngstown Alumnae Panhellenic Association (YAPA) had its annual spring dinner meeting at the Poland library catered by Kravitz Delicatessen.
The annual dinner meeting was the highest attendance for an annual dinner in a decade or more. Fifty-four members and seven guests were in attendance.
YAPA celebrated National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) Founders Day, raised money for the Endowment Fund, recognized current board members, installed new officers, chairmen and committee members for the 2018-2020 biennium, honored 13 past presidents, recognized new members and welcomed a scholarship winner. The dinner meeting also included a special presentation by the Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley President Shari Harrell and Donor Associate Rachael Chacon.
The group then awarded its 166th scholarship to Sarah Gonda, a member of Alpha Xi Delta at Mount Union College.
YAPA President Anna Masi shared some of the accomplishments of the past year. Seven new members joined, and a second Sunflower Sisterhood event took place in October. YAPA raised $755 at the group’s holiday luncheon in December and they surpassed their goal of raising money through the Sunflower Petal Project. Members donated for four philanthropic collections and had the first hands-on service project by volunteering at Our Community Kitchen. They also had two “Yappy Happy Hours,” continued to work on Historian Project Phase 2, launched their “Sisterhood Spirit Wear” collection, had six “Social Supper with your Sisters” dinners, had an NPC Candlelight Celebration in honor of Badge Day in March and a “Pinned in Sisterhood” ceremony at their annual “Memorabilia Meeting” in April.
The group raised an additional $600 for its Endowment Fund at the annual dinner through the gift basket raffle, a pretzel fundraiser, a 50/50 raffle and member donations. Donations for the gift basket raffle were from Sugar Shack Too, Anna Masi, Mary Ellen Willmitch, Lynn Sorber and Melanie Angiuli of Angiuli’s Farm Market. Sugar Shack Too provided sunflower pops as favors for guests. Past presidents were recognized with a homemade chocolate gavel and a rose. Three new members were recognized with a certificate of membership and a rose.
Youngstown Alumnae Panhellenic Association is in its 92nd year and provides lifelong alumnae involvement for Greek alumnae women and supports collegiate Greek women.
