The Canfield Fourth of July Committee recently announced that former Canfield resident Dolores Hall Edwards is this year’s Parade Grand Marshal.
Born the fifth child in a family of ten, Edwards grew up in Brookfield and graduated from the College of Wooster with a degree in Education. She and her family moved to Canfield in 1960, when she was hired to teach English at Canfield High School. Edwards became the head of the English department and then the guidance department. In addition, she was student council and senior class advisor for many years.
Following her retirement from Canfield High School, Edwards joined the faculty at Youngstown State University and taught for several more years, amassing a combined total of more than 38 years in education. She currently resides at Barrington Terrace near Naples, Florida and continues to advocate and mentor on behalf of veterans and single mothers.

Parade participants line up early at the Fairgrounds with committee members and countless volunteers helping the floats, bands, antique cars and local and state dignitaries find their parade placement. At 10:10 a.m., parade starters Jim Queen and Mark Sabol will launch the Canfield Fourth of July Parade. Led by Police Chief Chuck Colucci and Fire Chief Don Hutchison, the parade heads north on Broad Street and winds around the Green, passing by the reviewing stand.
Following the Parade, there will be games for children and bounce-arounds on the North Green, including a petting zoo, all organized by committee member Courtney Larson. Larson notes that thanks to the generosity of the event sponsors this year, the pony rides are free. There is also a climbing wall and a dunk tank where you can dunk your favorite Canfield Police officer.
Music on the Gazebo following the parade is presented by former Canfield resident Mike Cruz and Friends.
