Beeghly Oaks Center for Rehabilitation and Healing celebrated National Nursing Homes Week with special activities from May 14-18.
Nursing Homes Week is a national week where senior living facilities celebrate their residents with different events.
Traci McCoy, activities director with the facility, organized the week so the staff could show their love for the residents while providing them with fun activities. She also wanted to display Beeghly Oaks’ appreciation for the staff and community.
They kicked off the week with a cookout for the Boardman Police Department to thank them for their service to the community. The police chief and many officers visited the facility. The day correlated with Police Appreciation Week. The residents celebrated the birthdays of those born in the month of May on Tuesday where they had a party with an entertainer.
Wednesday, the residents had a “sip and paint” where the residents painted a painting in the style of Vincent van Gogh. On Thursday, the residents had their yearly baseball game where they took turns hitting a plastic bat and getting pushed around the bases in their wheelchairs by the employees and volunteers. They also had hot dogs and root beer floats.
They finished up the week on Friday with karaoke with Simply Ed. They also had a “flair my chair” contest where members of the staff took a resident’s wheelchair and decorated it. Two members of the staff worked together one a single chair and the other residents judged their favorite chairs.
Throughout the week, they had hung up small posters on the walls of the building. These posters detailed interesting facts about the residents and the staff.
