NF Network fundraiser

BOARDMAN

The Neurofibromatosis Network invites the public to its 6th annual #NFStrong 5K Walk/Run for Neurofibromatosis on Saturday. Activities will kick off at 9 a.m. at Boardman Park, Masters Pavilion, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, and the 5K Walk/Run will start at 10.

Registration is $25 for adults, $12 for children and $6 for children age 3 and under. Anyone who raises $100 will qualify for free registration and an event T-shirt. The event will include food, a DJ, face painting, NF tattoos, NF champion medals, fundraising certificates, a raffle and more.

Joint open house set

YOUNGSTOWN

Animal Charity Humane Society, 4140 Market St., and Crumbles Bakery, 4150 Market St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for a joint open house.

The event, “Caturday Morning,” will feature DIY projects to benefit the shelter’s cat population, meet and greets with adoptable animals and information about both organizations and their missions. Guests may purchase treats from the bakery and may park at either facility.

Ham radio Field Day

CANFIELD

In cooperation with Mill Creek MetroParks, radio operators from the Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will spend from noon Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday showing the public how Amateur Radio or Ham Radio responds to public communications needs in times of emergencies. Ham Operators will set up multiple stations at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fair Grounds, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, and operate for a full 24 hours on power supplied from stand-alone generators, batteries and solar power. The emergency preparedness exercise is called Field Day and is a yearly event in the U.S. and Canada put together by the American Radio Relay League. Stations complete with sophisticated computer systems, antennas and power distribution are assembled quickly to make contact with thousands of other stations nationwide completely independent of domestic power and support. These stations will use many forms of communications from voice and Morse Code to the latest digital transmission systems and satellite communications. The ARRL estimates that more than 35,000 hams participate in Field Day every year.
