Man charged with rape deemed competent to stand trial

YOUNGSTOWN — A man accused of tying a woman up and raping her in front of her children was found competent to stand trial.

Keion Stella, 35, of Warren, appeared in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court this morning where his attorney stipulated to reports by a psychiatrist that found Stella competent to stand trial and sane at the time he carried out the acts.

On Oct. 8, Stella tied a woman up in front of her 5- and 6-year-old children, took her upstairs and raped her and took her downstairs and raped her again, according to reports.

He also faces 27 counts in Trumbull County including 12 counts of rape for acts that took place between Oct. 4 and Oct. 7. One of the victims in that case is a juvenile.
