Former YSU guard Perry hits title-winning 3-pointer
By Brian Dzenis
Former Youngstown State point guard Kendrick Perry hit a buzzer-better on Monday to make the Szolnok Olaj the champions of the Nemezeti Bajnoksag I/A — the Hungarian equivalent of the NBA.
Trailing by three with a second left in regulation, Perry caught the inbound pass off a screen, took one step and drilled a 3-pointer for an 81-80 victory against Falco-Vulcano, winning the finals series 3-1.
Perry finished the contest with 20 points for the Olaj, which translates to Oil in English. Heading into Monday’s game, Perry was the Oil’s second leading scorer, averaging 17.5 points per game.
Perry is a part of a title-winning team for the second year in a row. He played for KK Karpos Sokoli, which won last year’s Macedonian Cup. His current team is roughly an hour and a half’s drive east of Budapest.
Perry was a three-time, first-team All-Horizon League Player at YSU from the 2010-11 through 2013-14 seasons. His 1,991 career points are the third most in Penguins history.
