Marine Detachment 494 elects officers


The Marine Corps League, Tri-State Marine Detachment 494 of Youngstown recently elected officers. The group was chartered in 1981 and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1983. It is the second-largest of 39 detachments in Ohio with approximately 130 members, including 13 associate members who come from other branches of the military. The organization is active in various community and military events. The new officers, above, from left, are Jeff Gulling, junior vice commandant; Elwood Walker, judge advocate; Mark Carver, commandant; Gene McCalpin, sergeant-at-arms; Dale Baringer, chaplain; and Gene Apgar, quartermaster. Other officers not pictured are Ken Jakubec, senior vice commandant; Dan Lewis, paymaster; and Earl Calvin, adjutant.
