Stoops/Pelini bocce social set June 24

YOUNGSTOWN

The 18th Annual Ron Stoops Sr. and Anthony Pelini Memorial Foundation Bocce Social will be held on June 24 from noon-6 p.m. at the MVR Restaurant.

The benefit unites celebrities, corporate sponsors, alumni and friends of Cardinal Mooney High School to benefit local charities. Hundreds of alumni and friends are expected.

Invited to attend are: Bo Pelini, Youngstown State University head football coach; Jim Tressel, YSU president; Bernie Kosar, former Cleveland Browns quarterback; Greg Pruitt, former Browns running back; Mike Tomczak, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback; Mark Stoops, University of Kentucky head coach; Vince Marrow, Kentucky tight ends coach; and Ed Muransky, former Oakland Raiders lineman.

The bocce event has a full slate of teams competing on six courts. Celebrity guests will join teams throughout the tournament.

Items from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, YSU, the San Francisco 49ers and the Browns have been signed by celebrities and will be raffled.

Another auction will feature college and pro football helmets, shirts and photos.

The event starts at noon and features an open bar, all-day appetizers and a steak dinner from 4-6 p.m. with pasta, salad and greens.

Proceeds will benefit the Ron Stoops Sr. and Anthony Pelini Memorial Foundation, which has raised more than $1 million since 2002.
