Canfield Republican Women's Club PAC will sponsor a quarter auction fundraiser Wednesday at the Shrine Club, 1735 W. South Range Road, North Lima. Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools will host an auction at 9 a.m. July 3 in the board room at the Junior High School, 907 Milton Blvd. The auction is for timber harvesting at the school’s campus. Hubbard Historical Society will sponsor its Old Fashioned Bingo on June 13 at the Hubbard VFW Post 3767, 710 West Liberty St. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the first game starts at 6. CRAFT SHOWS

DANCES

Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Ed Pabst will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances between the tips. This will be a high/low dance with tips for new and experienced dancers. FESTIVALS

Grove City Memorial Park, 1200 W. Main Street, will host its 28th annual Grove City Strawberry Days festival from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event has free admission, free parking available and is handicapped accessible. There will be steak hoagies, loaded baked potatoes, Dippin' Dots, shaved ice, strawberry shortcake and more. Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, will host a Strawberry Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. June 29, rain or shine. Strawberries, ice cream, shortcake, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, snacks and beverages will be served. There will be a 50-50 raffle and a summer basket raffle, winners need not be present. Christ Our Savior Church will host the 45 Annual Saint Nicholas Church Festival that will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. June 13 and from 6 to 11 p.m. June 14, 15 and 16. Children's Night is June 13 with Joko the clown; gambling night at the great hall is June 14. Music will be featured, Del Sinchak Polka band, Highland Rose and Haymaker each evening, and there will be basket and Father's Day raffle. Simply Slavic will host its eighth annual Simply Slavic festival from 7 to 10 p.m. June 15 for"Party on the Plaza- Slavic-style" and from noon to midnight June 16 on Federal Plaza East. Winona Area Historical Society will host its 7th Annual Winona Strawberry Festival that will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 24 at the Quaker Meeting House grounds, at the corner of Cameron Street and Winona Road. There will be barbecued chicken halves, homemade pie, ice cream and strawberries, sides and sandwiches. There also will be information tents and cars from the Tri-State Antique Car Club. FUNDRAISERS

Ladies in Little Black Dresses for Literacy fundraising event, sponsored by the Literary Society of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. Tickets are available at $40 each, which includes heavy appetizers and one glass of wine. There also will be a cash bar. Attendees are asked to wear their favorite little black dress or suit and bring a copy of a book by their favorite author to swap with others at the event. Guests can also donate once-read and brand new children's books. This event benefits the Library Foundation funds, the Carol A. Bacon Literary Society Fund and the Martha Muransky Children's Literacy Fund. Lakeside Golf Course, Lake Milton, will be the site for the 13th Annual Sunshine benefit Golf Outing on July 21 which is sponsored by Magilla's Sports Bar. Proceeds benefit Rachel Sheridan of Boardman, a sonographer at UPMC Horizon, battling stage 3 breast cancer. The volunteer committee hosts the event to help cancer sufferers and their families in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to defray medical costs. The outing is a three-player scramble with continental lunch at the turn. A steak fry will take place after the scramble at Magilla's Sports Bar, 255 Four Mile Run Road, Austintown. Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host First Friday Block Parties on July 6 and Aug. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. on South Main St., Columbiana. The first block of the street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4:30 p.m. and re-open at 8:30. The events include shopping, food, entertainment and special events. Friends of the Mahoning River will host a canoe and kayak paddle at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the newly constructed Girard Launch in collaboration with the Trumbull Canoe trails. Paddlers will leave the dock at 10:30 and will arrive at the B&O Station for a picnic.

Huntington Place Plaza, 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a Mission Night Project from 6 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month through October. The dates will be July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14 and Oct. 12. This will be a time for the Mahoning Valley to showcase the foods, crafts, talents, customs and people making the community a great place to live. Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, will host its International Food Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature door prizes, children’s activities, local vendors and more. Sutliff Museum is announcing its new exhibit that will run through August. The exhibit is “Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century,” and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of “The Original S’mores” ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a "Donate a Hot Dog" campaign to help provide food to the area's homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie's customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

Veterans' Outreach will host its Third Annual Golf Scramble July 6 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Cost is $55 per person or $240 per team. Cost is $20 for the meal only. There will be a 50-50 raffle, basket raffle, doughnuts and coffee in the morning, beverages, dinner buffet and more. Sponsorships are needed and are available at $100 for name displayed as a hole sponsor; and $500 or more sponsors will receive a free foursome, media coverage, catered dinner, snacks, drinks and a banner displayed at the welcome area. Lake Milton American Legion 737 Auxiliary will host a fundraiser casino bus trip to the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh onThursday. Cost is $30 per person, players will receive $20 in free play and a $5 food voucher from the casino. The bus will board at 9 a.m. at the Lake Milton American Legion 737 hall, 16465 Milton Ave., and will return approximately 5:30 p.m.

Ohio Living Senior Center will sponsor a trip to Thistledown Racino on Wednesday. Fab-u-les$ Tours will arrive at 9 a.m. at Youngstown Skate, 7080 Tiffany Blvd., Boardman, (please use side parking lot only, do not park in front), to meet all those who are not members of the senior center. Upon arrival at Thistledown, all will be presented with a $25 free slot play incentive plus a gift bag. The bus will depart for home at 4 p.m.

Struthers Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip to the former Mansfield Penitentiary in Mansfield on Monday. Cost is $65. The penitentiary is widely known for its inclusion in the film “The Shawshank Redemption.” The trip will include a guided tour of the 1886 Ohio State Reformatory, a trip to the Dutch Kitchen in Dalton for Amish-cooked food and a stop at Lehman’s Hardware Store, which primarily services the Amish community. The bus will depart from Struthers High School’s senior parking lot — on Euclid Avenue between Spring Street and Morrison Street across from the Veterans Memorial — at 8 a.m., and will return by about 5:15 p.m. The bus boards at 7:45 a.m. Reservations and payments can be made to the Struthers Historical Society at 50 Terrace St., Struthers, OH, 44471.
