Investigators probe cause of major house blaze in Boardman

BOARDMAN

Township firefighters today are returning to an 8165 Tippecanoe Road home where a fire early this morning caused between $75,000 to $100,000 damage.

Fire Chief Mark Pitzer said the homeowner was awakened by a smoke alarm about 2:10 a.m. and saw fire on the porch. She managed to wake her four children and another person in the home, and all got out safely when firefighters arrived.

No one was injured. Pitzer said the roof collapsed on the porch so the road department will try and clear that away so investigators can examine it more closely because it appears the fire started on the porch.
