Ohio woman gets prison for toddler’s drowning at her home
ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman found guilty in the death of one toddler and lasting injuries to another after they were found in a pool at her in-home daycare has received four years in prison.
The Lorain Morning Journal reports 49-year-old Elizabeth Zenda, of Pittsfield Township, said before sentencing Thursday in Lorain County that her life changed when 22-month-old Annie Flynn died in October 2016. Zenda was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering after a three-day bench trial.
Relatives of Annie and her brain-damaged male cousin told Flynn how her inattentiveness has damaged their lives and that she’s a danger to her own grandchildren. Prosecutors say Zenda let the toddlers outside to play while she did housework.
The cousin was 21 months old at the time. Zenda plans to appeal.
