Three Boardman bands had their spring concert in the Boardman Performing Arts Center on May 31.
Center Intermediate’s fifth- and sixth-grade bands and Glenwood Junior High School’s seventh-grade band performed at the concert. Music teachers Michael Shevock and Timothy Tuite directed the bands.
The fifth grade began the program with “March on the Seas.” They played a total of six songs during their performance, such as “Indigo Rock” and “Big Bass Boogie.” This group just started playing their instruments at the beginning of the school year, so it displayed the talents they fostered during the year.
The sixth grade followed the group up with a set of six more songs, beginning with “Bells!” They finished their group of songs with “The Star Spangled Banner.” A student walked up to the microphone to discuss the history of the national anthem before the song.
Glenwood Junior High School’s seventh-grade ensemble closed out the show. They also played six songs, beginning with “Above and Beyond” and ending with “Madcap Mallet Mania.”
Each of the performances featured a popular song. The fifth grade finished their set of songs with “Hang on Sloopy” by The McCoys, the sixth grade performed “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc. and the seventh grade did a band rendition of “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.
