Man arrested after trying to pull over troopers

PHOENIX

Arizona authorities say a 44-year-old uniformed security guard is accused of impersonating a police officer by trying to pull over an unmarked car that happened to contain two state troopers patrolling a Phoenix freeway.

The Department of Public Safety says Matthew Allen Disbro of Mesa was driving his personal black Dodge Charger on July 11 when he activated law-enforcement-style emergency lights on his car to pull over the troopers’ yellow Ford Mustang.

According to the department, the troopers wouldn’t pull over, so Disbro then drove alongside, yelled and waved a hand at the troopers to get them to pull over before they activated their own vehicle’s police lights and pulled him over.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Disbro who could comment on the allegations.

Man smashes through grocery store ceiling, twice

DOVER, N.H.

Police say a man fell through the ceiling of a New Hampshire supermarket, twice.

Authorities say officers were responding to the scene of a bank robbery in Dover the afternoon of July 12 when they heard a commotion at the nearby Shaw’s supermarket.

Police say they found a 30-year-old man’s legs hanging above the store’s seafood and deli section. Officers cleared the store, and the man partially fell through the ceiling again above the store’s refrigerated meats.

Police eventually convinced the man to come down, and he was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, trespassing and resisting arrest.

It is unclear how the man got into the ceiling.

RI governor will have office hours at the beach

PROVIDENCE, R.I.

Rhode Island’s governor says she’s holding summer office hours at the beach.

Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo was to have the first event July 16 at Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett. She was to be joined by members of her Office of Constituent Services to help connect residents with various services. She planned to sign an executive order to reduce reliance on single-use plastics that can end up in the state’s waters.

Raimondo says she looks forward to hosting office hours and hearing directly from residents at some of the state’s most popular destinations. She planned to go to East Matunuck State Beach on Monday and Lincoln Woods State Park on Aug. 3.
