Documentary puts focus on Valley rock band the BreezeWay

The first installment of a documentary travel film series that puts the spotlight on Salem-based rock band the BreezeWay, as it tours the globe, has been released.

Episode 1 of “The BreezeWay (the International Local Band)” can be streamed or downloaded online; go to vimeo.com/ondemand/thebreezewayepisode1.

The episode spends three months with the band on the road as it experiences various cultures, perform gigs, records in the studio and spends time with friends.

It offers a behind the scenes glimpse of how an independent band tours and collaborates with other artists.

Current members of the BreezeWay, which formed in 1996, are Roy Henceroth, Jesse Henceroth, Chrissy Reed and Bernie Shutler.

Lit Youngstown offers a poetry reading

YOUNGSTOWN

Lit Youngstown will host poets Kari Gunter-Seymour, Sherri Saines and Kathleen Strafford on Wednesday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave.

The reading, which starts at 7:30, will be followed by an open mic session hosted by Jeanne Bryner. The reading is free and open to the public.

Gunter-Seymour’s poems can be found in many journals and publications. She is a journalism instructor at Ohio University and is the poet laureate for Athens, Ohio.

Sherri Saines is a librarian, mother, 18th-century re-enactor, dancer and poet. She has been published in many small press publications.

Strafford, an English instructor, has been widely published in anthologies and webzines. Her debut poetry collection, “Her Own Language,” has recently been published by Dempsey and Windle of London.

Twins Days Festival is next weekend

TWINSBURG

The 2018 Twins Days Festival will take place Aug. 4 and 5 at Glen Chamberlain Park, 10270 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg.

This annual international event is recorded as the Largest Annual Gathering of Twins in the World by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Admission to the grounds for the public, nonregistered twins and families of registered twins is $4 (free for children 5 and under). Thousands of twins from all over the world attend the event. Nontwins are also welcome.

Saturday morning kicks off with the Double Take parade. Activities during the day will include twins contests, twins talent show, twins research area, twins group photo, entertainment, arts and crafts and twin-related booths, small amusement rides and games, and a fireworks show.

Sunday morning’s activities include the Twins Days 5K Run and Fun Walk benefiting the Melanoma Education Initiative. During the day the activities will be the same as Saturday’s with the exception of the parade and fireworks.

Twins are encouraged to register at the festival to be able to participate in the twins related activities and to be included in the official count. Registration forms can be downloaded at twinsdays.org. Twins can also register at the festival site.

Woofstock music fest at Yankee Lake ballroom

Woofstock, a concert event to benefit the Animal Welfare League, will take place Aug. 4 at Yankee Lake ballroom on state Route 7. Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is $35.

Created and organized by local veterinarian Dr. Suzanne Wilcox, the event will feature Generation Rock, the Huckin’ Fillbillys and Second Avenue Project, plus special guest Dennis Drummond, a native of Warren who appeared on TV competition show “The Voice” last year.

The event will include a silent and live auction, food and a cash bar.

Curtis Grimes concert at Mosquito Lake Marina

CORTLAND

Curtis Grimes, who appeared on season one of NBC’s “The Voice,” will give a free concert at Mosquito Lake Marina at 6 p.m. Aug. 10. The Texas native finished in the top 10 on the show and has since recorded four studio albums.

The marina is at 1439 Wilson Sharpsville Road.
