Mahoning Valley Young Professionals will offer a volunteer opportunity for the community from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Animal Charity Humane Society. Participants will meet at Animal Charity, 525 W. The Underground Railroad tour that will take place at noon Saturday on the Quakertown Trolley from the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave., has seating availability. MVHS will host open house Wednesday

Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave. There will be hands-on activities, games, crafts, dress-up clothing and more.

Salem Library to host history program

SALEM

The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host its Live from Anywhere program titled “Woodrow Wilson and Slavery” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the library’s Quaker Room. In this virtual visit, participants will learn about the enslaved people who worked in Wilson’s home when he was a young boy, the little-discussed practice of leasing labor and how this exposure later shaped his life.

This interactive videoconference program is provided by the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library & Museum. The program will include viewing artifacts from the museum and library and is free. Register online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or call 330-332-0042 for registration assistance.

Volunteers needed for veterans memorial

WARREN

The Warren Heritage Center and Trumbull County Veterans Services, in conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, are bringing “The Wall That Heals” and mobile education center from Aug. 16 to 19 to the South lawn of Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. The Wall that heals is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The display and education center will be open 24 hour a day and is free to the public. This will be the only Ohio stop chosen for the 2018 National Tour.
