“Go Wild in the Park” program planned

Salem Parks and Recreation Department and Salem Public Library will host a family-friendly program about snakes and turtles at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pavilion 9 in Waterworth Memorial Park. Guest speakers will include Jenn Rose and Cheryl Mattevi, educators at Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center. The presenters will bring a selection of snakes and turtles to the program and will teach participants how to identify the friendly and not-so-friendly. They will discuss the history of reptiles in the area and separate fact from fiction about these animals. To locate Pavilion 9, enter Waterworth Memorial Park from East Eighth Street, park in the parking lot near the duck pond and follow the signs.

Church asks for donations for students

NEW WATERFORD

Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will host its 10th annual August Overflow from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 4, to distribute school supplies and clothing, serve food, pass out fresh produce and have bounce houses and barrel rain rides. The American Red Cross will host a blood drive during the event.

Distribution serves students in Crestview, Columbiana (including Heartland Christian), Leetonia, East Palestine, Lisbon, Beaver Local districts, home-schooled students in those districts and the five churches in the Crestview area.

To receive school supplies, recipients must bring a report card from the previous school year and/or a driver’s license or document showing proof of residency. Items are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with no registration required.

Donations of good, clean children’s clothing and school supplies will be accepted at the church or office through Aug. 1.

Food truck Friday

Shepherd of the Valley will host a food truck festival from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastwood Field. The event will have more than 10 food trucks and 40 vendors.

Each vehicle will be charged $10 for entry, regardless of the number of people attending. All proceeds benefit Shepherd’s Foundation to support activities and benevolent care for residents. Sponsors include Blue Sky Therapy and Hill Barth and King. Gold Sponsors are Biviano Carpet and The Cafaro Foundation. Bronze Sponsors include Attorney Diane Chermely and York Mahoning Mechanical Contractors.
