Teacher in Idaho denies feeding puppy to snapping turtle

PRESTON, Idaho

An Idaho teacher accused of feeding a sick puppy to a snapping turtle in front of several students has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.

Preston Junior High School science teacher Robert Crosland made the plea July 10 in Franklin County Magistrate Court.

He faces up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted at his trial scheduled to start Oct. 26.

The school is in rural Preston, where the 2004 teen cult classic film “Napoleon Dynamite” was set.

Several parents came forward to say Crosland fed the puppy to the turtle March 7.

Several weeks later, state officials seized the turtle and euthanized it as a non-native species.

Crosland didn’t respond to a message left by The Associated Press at the school.

Bulldog Zsa Zsa, world’s ugliest dog, dies weeks after winning title

ANOKA, Minn.

A 9-year-old English bulldog has died just weeks after winning the 2018 World’s Ugliest Dog contest.

Owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, told NBC’s “Today “ that Zsa Zsa died in her sleep July 10. Brainard says the dog was staying with her father and he found she had passed away when he got up in the morning.

Zsa Zsa – with her floppy tongue, crooked teeth and pink manicure – won the annual contest on June 23 at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, Calif.

Brainard says Zsa Zsa never really showed much excitement, but that she knew she was special.

Dogs in the annual competition flaunt their imperfections.

The contestants included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin and a Pekingese named Wild Thang.
