Shakespeare at Castle presents ‘Twelfth Night’

The fifth season of Shakespeare at the Castle will begin next with with four performances of “Twelfth Night” at the historic Glamorgan Castle, 200 Glamorgan St. Shows will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and July 27, 28 and 29.

The comedy tells the story of a woman, washed up on shore in a strange land, who dresses in a man’s clothing for safety. Because it is set on a Caribbean island, a steel drum combo will perform, directed by Jeff Neitzke of the University of Mount Union. Directing the show is Jon Liebetrau, assistant professor of performing arts at Wilkes University.

“We chose ‘Twelfth Night’ because our audiences overwhelming requested this title on last year’s survey envelopes,” Liebetrau said. “Audiences respond to this play because it’s very funny, the characters are easily accessible, and it’s perfectly suitable for families.”

The cast includes Keith Stevens, Gregory Hofmeister, Shani Ferry, Gary Lamb and Kevin P. Kern, who directed “Much Ado About Nothing” for the Summer 2017 performances and is assistant professor and chair of the theater department at Mount Union and artistic director of SATC.

The castle provides a near-perfect backdrop for the performances.

Pre-show entertainment will begin at 6:15 p.m., and the grounds will open for picnicking at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 ($18 for seniors, veterans and children 12 and younger) for general admission; and $12 for bleacher and lawn seating ($10 for seniors, veterans and children).
