Students in Austintown will benefit from a national backpack giveaway to take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at TCC, 5507 Mahoning Ave., on Sunday. Nearly 1,000 participating TCC and Wireless Zone stores are teaming up to donate 187,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through TCC’s annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. Since 2013, TCC has donated more than 752,000 backpacks filled with supplies to ensure children are prepared for the start of the school year. Backpack will include pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more. Each TCC store is donating up to 220 backpacks, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Library to offer breakfast event

YOUNGSTOWN

The Summer Discovery Program at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is winding down. Children ages 3 to 11 must complete the program by Sunday and register to qualify for an invitation-only breakfast event featuring Marc Brown, author/illustrator of the best-selling “Arthur” books. The breakfast is sponsored by Sweeney Chevy Buick GMC. Participants must complete and log their activities by Saturday at the library or Sunday online at www.libraryvisit.org/our-happenings/summer-discovery/. Note that the online database will close at midnight Sunday. Upon completion and verification, participants will receive an invitation to the breakfast with instructions. Genealogy speaker to visit Salem library

SALEM

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host Tim Seman, genealogy and local history librarian at The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the library’s Quaker Room. His presentation topic will be, “An Archive without Walls: Using the National Archives Website for Genealogical and Historical Research”. During the hour-long talk, participants will examine the website www.archives.gov with special focus on the availability of online, digitized records that will enhance genealogical research. Also to be discussed is the use of the National Archives website as a clearinghouse for a variety of information related to the national experience. Food truck event

NILES

Shepherd of the Valley will host a food truck festival from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastwood Field. The event will have more than 10 food trucks and 40 vendors. Each vehicle will be charged $10 for entry, regardless of the number of people attending. All proceeds benefit Shepherd’s Foundation to support activities and benevolent care for residents. Sponsors include Blue Sky Therapy and Hill Barth and King. Gold Sponsors are Biviano Carpet and The Cafaro Foundation. Bronze Sponsors include Atty.
