German police ask for help in search for kangaroo mom, joey

BERLIN

German police are appealing to the public for help in their search for a kangaroo and her baby that went missing from a zoo recently.

Police in the central German state of Thuringia said July 6 that the mother and her joey disappeared after a fence at an animal enclosure in the village of Meuselwitz was cut. It was unclear whether thieves intended to steal the animals or just the contents of a nearby donation box, which was also discovered cut open Wednesday morning.

Police said a witness reported seeing a kangaroo hopping through a forest in the neighboring state of Saxony on July 5.

Authorities are warning the public not to try to capture the kangaroos on their own.

‘What’s up, guys?’ Suspect accused of taking meth

GOOSE CREEK, S.C.

Police say a man who brought drugs with him when he opened a car door and found himself facing a drug enforcement squad simply uttered an expletive and added, “What’s up, guys?”

Then he got arrested.

Citing a statement from the Berkeley County, S.C., Sheriff’s Office, WCSC-TV reports the team was investigating a drug complaint recently and pulled up in an unmarked K-9-equipped car to encourage the suspected drug dealer to leave the area.

The sheriff’s office says the suspect wasn’t discouraged by the dog’s excited yelps.

The statement says 40-year-old Eric Hall dropped plastic bags containing suspected meth and kicked them under the police vehicle when he realized who was inside.

But he was arrested, along with his passenger, 40-year-old Paul Howard.

It’s unclear whether they have lawyers.

Man takes a naked stroll through the city

BURLINGTON, Vt.

A man has decided to take a stroll in the buff through a Vermont downtown on a simmering day.

The Burlington Free Press reports the man wearing nothing but a hat, sneakers and a lime green tote bag walked around Burlington on a recent afternoon.

When asked why he decided to go outdoors underdressed, the man said, “It’s very hot.” He declined to identify himself.

Vermont was under a heat advisory that day, with the National Weather Service predicting a heat index of 102 degrees.

The man says he’s doing nothing but enjoying himself.
