Fun and Safety Day set

NORTH LIMA

The Beaver Township Safety Forces Kids Fun and Safety Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Beaver Township Safety Building, 601 W. South Range Road.

Participants will be able to meet EMTs, firefighters and police. The event will feature safety and first aid tips, a coloring contest, blood pressure checks, Jaws of Life and Smoke Room demonstrations, a Life Flight helicopter and more.

There will be popcorn, snow cones, hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks. One free smoke detector will be offered to all Beaver Township residents.

Austintown Rotarian receives award

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown Rotarian Gary Reel was recently awarded the Unsung Hero Award, one of ten in District 6650, at the District Assembly at the Avalon Inn. The 47 clubs were allowed to select one or two of their members, with 52 nominees. The officers narrowed that field and the awards were given on the last day of the conference. Reel has held many offices and worked with the flag program, Rescue Mission, Roadside Cleanup, and Community Connectors.

Beatitude House is accepting donations

YOUNGSTOWN

The Beatitude House is accepting donations of school supplies from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, from now through Aug. 8, at the administrative offices, 238 Tod Lane.

Students need traditional items and some specific items, such as: 3-ring binders, flash drives, five subject notebooks, notecards, book covers, calculators, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and more.
