MVCAP presents awards

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley College Access Program recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 22 graduating seniors at its scholarship breakfast.

MVCAP, a nonprofit organization that started in 2001, provides college access and awareness services. Since 2002, MVCAP has awarded scholarships to more than 500 students from Mahoning Valley Schools.

The program serves Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Youngstown Early College and East, Chaney and Choffin high schools in Youngstown.

MVCAP advisers work in tandem with high-school guidance counselors to clear obstacles that make attending and succeeding in college a reality. MVCAP services result in an increased number of students applying to and attending post-secondary schools and programs.

MVCAP is supported by the Raymond John Wean Foundation, the Youngstown Foundation, the PNC Foundation, the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, the Huntington Bank Foundation, the Helene Kaighin Family Fund, Paige and Byrnes Insurance and Farmer’s Trust, the Van Fossen Family Trust, Trumbull County Scholarship Fund and the Madigan Fund of the CFMV.

Scholarship recipients are Noah Diehl, Erika Sitch, Nakea Wilson, Gianna Jones, Marcquise Allgood, and D’Ann Toles, Warren G. Harding; Erin Bailey, Trinity Johnson, Miracle Nolan, Clemente Rodriguez, Tyra Finley, Andrew Lee, Miy’keysha Collins, Tatiana Molina, Shiree Wilson, Youngstown City Schools; and Abby Pratt, Rachel Ward, McDonald High School. Year 2 award recipients are Gabrielle Jones, Da’Jahnae Provitt, Yesarily Sanchez, Jensen Silbaugh and Victoria Woods.
