Canfield's Stein commits to Ohio State

CANFIELD

Canfield senior Tyler Stein will continue his wrestling career at Ohio State, the school announced Wednesday night.

The Buckeyes are the defending NCAA runners-up and the Big Ten Conference champions.

The 220-pounder went 49-3 while winning a Division II state title in his junior season. He's the fourth Division I wrestling commit from Canfield in the last three years and will be the second area wreslter in the Big Ten, joining Howland's David-Brian Whisler.

Wilson, Keller make third round of tourney

Columbiana's Jared Wilson and Cardinal Mooney's Ken Keller made the cut for the third round of the 2018 Ohio Amateur Championship on Wednesday at the Wedgewood Golf Course and Country Club on Wednesday.

Keller is tied for 19th place despite shooting a 77 on Tuesday after finishing the first round tied for first place with a 68. Wilson, a two-time state champ, is tied for 50th place after shooting a 73.

Locals who missed the cut include Windham's Robert Schustrich, who tied for 64th place and Poland's Jackson McQuown, who tied for 124th place.

YSU prospect camp moved to Aug. 13-14

The Youngstown State baseball program's Prospect Camp that was scheduled for next week has been moved to Aug. 13-14.

The Prospect Camp will be held at Eastwood Field, and is for high school and junior college players to get hands-on instruction from the YSU coaching staff. The cost is $125 for pitchers, $175 for position players or $200 for both.

Former Michigan State coach Rogers dies

DETROIT

Darryl Rogers, who coached Michigan State to a share of the Big Ten title in 1978 and later took the helm for the Detroit Lions, has died. He was 83.

The Lions said Rogers' family confirmed his death Wednesday.

Rogers coached Michigan State from 1976-79, going 24-18-2. The 1978 team, which included star flanker Kirk Gibson, won its final seven games to finish tied for first in the conference.

Rogers also coached at Arizona State from 1980-84 before heading to the NFL. He was with the Lions from 1985-88.

Former Louisville players sue NCAA

LOUISVILLE, KY.

An attorney representing a group of former Louisville men's basketball players says they have filed a lawsuit against the NCAA over the organization's vacation of the Cardinals' 2013 national championship and 2012 Final Four.

John Morgan, one of several attorneys representing former Cardinals captain Luke Hancock, the 2013 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and four teammates from that title team, described the NCAA as “a morally bankrupt organization” that exploits student-athletes during a Wednesday news conference.

The NCAA stripped Louisville of the title as part of sanctions for violations discovered during an escort scandal investigation.

The governing body in February denied the school’s appeal and vacated 123 victories, including their third NCAA title, following an escort’s book allegations in October 2015 that former basketball staffer Andre McGee hired her and other dancers for sex parties.

Sagan wins Tour de France's 4th stage

QUIMPER, FRANCE

For the second time in this year's Tour de France, Peter Sagan has beaten Sonny Colbrelli in a sprint finish.

As opposed to the flatter Stage 2, his Stage 4 victory came at the conclusion of the race's first hilly route Wednesday.

Greg Van Avermaet took advantage of an intermediate bonus sprint to add two seconds to his overall lead, ahead of BMC teammate Tejay van Garderen.
