The Brookses celebrate their 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Loran Brooks of Canfield recently celebrated their 60th anniversary at Greenfield Village and Inn in Dearborn, Mich. Hosts were the couple’s children, Loran D. (Margaret) Brooks of Birmingham, Mich.; Cheryl (Al) Montag of Loveland; and Cindy (Jim) Corll of Rochester Hills, Mich., as well as their nine grandchildren, Aaron, Ethan and Madeline Brooks; Matthew and Nicholas Montag; and Joe, Zachary, Jacob and Katelynn Corll.

Mr. Brooks married the former Joyce E. Hoyt on June 15, 1958, at Austintown Community Church where they remain members.

Mrs. Brooks was an elementary school teacher for the Greenford School District and a K-12 reading specialist for the Canfield School District. She also was the director of personnel at the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and the Youngstown City School District. She served as interim assistant dean of Youngstown State University’s College of Education post-retirement. Mrs. Brooks served on the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and Career and Technical Center boards of education. She also was the supervisor of the Education Building at the Canfield Fair.

Mr. Brooks worked in the Department of Research and the Metallurgy Department of Youngstown Sheet and Tube until beginning a new career as a farmer. He was a leader in the State and National Corn Growers Associations and is on the Mahoning County Extension Advisory Committee as well as the Canfield Township Board of Appeals. He also was supervisor of the Hay and Grain Building and equipment display at the Canfield Fair.

The Brookses also were co-marshals of the 2016 Canfield Fourth of July Parade.
