Police find more bones on North Side

Police returned Monday to a wooded area on the North Side where a skull was found and discovered more bones.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said in a news release said that besides the bones, some clothing also was found. Blackburn would not comment when asked if a significant amount of bones was found or if any other evidence was found.

The bones were found in a wooded area at Kensington and Saranac avenues, police said.

On Friday, police were called there and found a partial skull. The bones and the skull have been given to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office. Police are combing through missing-person reports but as of yet do not have a gender or cause of death to work with until more tests are done.

In April 2016, police and coroner’s investigators recovered a set of bones in a vacant lot on Wydesteel Avenue, also on the North Side, and later were able to identify them as belonging to Jabreal Collins, 18.

In that case, a person found the skull and took it to the police station. Police went back at daylight and recovered more bones. Collins’ death was ruled a homicide. He was last seen in 2013.
