Art exhibition in vacant house

WARREN

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County will present a public art exhibition, titled “Occupied Warren,” in which a temporary display is installed in a vacant, blighted house in the city’s Garden District.

Modeled after the Rooms to Let: CLE exhibition, produced by Slavic Village Community Development Corporation in Cleveland, “Occupied Warren” will include works of art created, installed, developed, revealed or performed by local artists. The art will explore themes of blight, abandonment, vacancy, and the revitalization process the city is undergoing.

Artists are encouraged to use salvaged or found materials and the abandoned home itself as part of their submissions. This project is meant to showcase the work of local artists while stimulating awareness and starting a deeper conversation about the journey from blight to revitalization.

Artists are encouraged to explore the stories and experiences of the city’s neighborhoods. Works can be in any media. A modest stipend will be awarded for each selected project.

There will be three open-house opportunities to view the property. Contact James Shuttic at 330-469-1729 for dates and times. Proposals are due Feb. 20 and will be selected by a committee. The selected projects will be announced in March.

Diners at eatery can feed the hungry

YOUNGSTOWN

As part of a new project, Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts will help feed the hungry at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley,

Customers at the restaurant-bar at 24 N. Phelps St., downtown, can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Each donation will be matched dog-for-dog by Suzie’s.

On the second Wednesday of every month this year, Suzie’s employees will bring a meal and all the notes to the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Mission’s downtown facility.

The project is inspired by the tragic shooting death late last November of Colin Brown, who worked in the restaurant industry. A volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, Brown was known for helping those in need.
