3 attain highest honor

Troop 9002 recently recognized three young men for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouting’s highest honor. They are the 101st, 102nd and 103rd Eagle Scouts for Troop 9002 chartered to Poland United Methodist Church.

The Eagle Scouts are Joshua Porter, Victor DiTommaso and Diego Calderon.

Joshua is the son of James and Ann Porter of Poland. Among his achievements, he earned 40 merit badges, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and served as assistant senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Joshua created 20 seed-starting grow kits for the Ohio State University Extension Office. He is a junior at Poland Seminary High School, where he is a member of the soccer team.

Victor is the son of Anthony and Lisa DiTommaso of Poland. Notable achievements included earning 24 merit badges, being inducted into the Order of the Arrow and serving as senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Victor created several bookshelves for a new library at Potential Development Elementary School in Youngstown.

He is a senior at Poland Seminary High School, where he is involved in the Poland Players theater club and was a varsity soccer player.

Diego is the son of Dr. Javier and Cassandra Calderon of Poland. He completed 38 merit badges, served as Neatoka Chapter Chief while a member of the Order of the Arrow and served as senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Diego created an oversized PVC pipe xylophone for the Rich Center for Autism in Youngstown. He is a junior at Poland Seminary High School, where he participates in the robotics club and tennis team.
