Men’s Garden Club seeks applications for scholarship

The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown has been promoting the education of college students in the field of horticulture through scholarships since 1991. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,500 and will be awarded to students pursuing a college degree in ornamental horticulture, landscape design or a similar subject. Applications must be received by March 1.

Applicants must complete an application at www.mgcy.org/pages/scholarship.aspx, include letters of recommendation and transcripts and return to Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown, c/o Robert Schulick, 1012 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown, OH 44511. Those meeting the requirements will be contacted by telephone to schedule an interview. All interviewed applicants will be notified by May 1 of their status, and those chosen will attend the May meeting of MGCY to receive their scholarship.

To qualify, each applicant must be a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled in college in a horticulture program at a post-secondary two- or four-year institution, must attend an accredited college/university in the United States, must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 based on the 4.0 system, and must live in or have attended high school in Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Stark or Trumbull counties in Ohio, or Mercer or Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.
