Ex-Phantom makes NHL debut with Flames

EDMONTON, ALBERTA

Ryan Lomberg, a Youngstown Phantom during the 2014-15 season, made his NHL debut on Thursday with the Calgary Flames in a game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Lomberg joins Andrej Sustr (Lightning), Scott Mayfield (Islanders), Kyle Connor (Jets), Matt O’Conner, Jiri Sekac, Nathan Walker and Dan Renouf as former Youngstown Phantoms playing in at least one NHL game.

The Flames promoted Lomberg from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat to their roster on Jan. 14 when Jaromir Jagr was placed on injured reserve.

Lomberg had 11 points (4-7) in 33 games this season with the Heat.

Cardinal Mooney to host HOF dinner

Cardinal Mooney High School will host its 26th annual Athletic Hall of Fame dinner on Feb. 18 at the Lake Club in Poland. Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A dinner buffet will begin at 6:45 with the induction ceremony set for 8. Tickets cost $75 each with a table of eight for $600.

Former University of Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops will give the welcoming remarks on behalf of the Stoops family. All proceeds go directly to the Ron Stoops Scholarship Fund, which was established by the Stoops family to provide tuition scholarships for students who attend Cardinal Mooney.

Poland High School to host softball clinic

Girls ages 6-14 are invited to participate in a ‚ãtwo-day softball clinic presented by ‚ãThe Poland All-Sports Boosters and hosted by the Bulldogs softball coaching staff and players. The clinic will be held on Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 from ‚ã9-11 a.m. ‚ãin ‚ãPoland High School’s old gym‚ã.

Players will participate in various drills focused on hitting, fielding, throwing and baserunning.

Players should report to the high school gymnasium by 8:50 a.m. on both days with their own glove, bat, helmet, tennis shoes and water. The cost of the clinic is ‚ã$30 per child. Each additional sibling will cost $20. Please make ‚ãchecks or money order payable to the ‚ãPoland All-Sports Boosters‚ã. ‚ãNo cash will be accepted‚ã.
