Garrettsville man faces theft charge

A man faces a theft charge after police said he admitted stealing a wallet and giving it to someone who used the victim’s credit cards.

Charged is William Nichols, 49, of Garrettsville.

A woman reported someone stole her wallet from her purse while she was shopping Wednesday at Aldi’s on South Avenue.

Youngstown police then recovered the wallet during a traffic stop, leading to Nichols’ arrest.

Nichols told police he stole the wallet at the request of another man, who was “dope sick and needed money,” according to the report. The other man then used the stolen credit cards to get gas, Nichols told police.

Educational seminar at Packard Museum

The National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. NW, will present another installment of its “Coffee & Donut” educational seminar series Saturday.

This month’s seminar, a group panel discussion titled “Evolution of Motorcycling,” will be presented by the members of the museums’ Antique Motorcycle Exhibit Committee.

This seminar, which begins at noon, is free with paid admission.

Business donates van to family

Shane Ferguson, owner of Shane’s Auto Sales on Mahoning Avenue, donated a van to the family rescued after their van slid off icy roads and plunged into the Girard Lake.

Michelle Campo and her five children were trapped in the van, but bystanders helped rescue them.

They had been without a vehicle since the incident earlier this month.

Ferguson said he was driven to donate the van when he heard on the news that Campo’s husband, Andrew MacGregor, saved for years to get the previous van.

Friends of Ferguson’s donated a new car and booster seats for the family as well, and Ferguson said community members have been dropping off gift cards for the family.

Scout Freeze Out set for Saturday

Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Cub Scouts from all of the Cub Scout Packs of the Whispering Pines District (Mahoning County and Hubbard), Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, will brave the weather for the Cub Scout Freeze Out on Saturday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road.

This is an annual district event to build on Cub Scout skills in an outdoor winter environment.

The morning session will be from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and the afternoon session will be from 1 to 4:45 p.m.

Cub Scouts will go through fast-paced, age-appropriate stations with a variety of individual and team activities that will keep them moving.
