Trumbull commissioners to interview finalists today for county administrator
Staff report
WARREN
Trumbull County commissioners will interview two finalists today for the job of county administrator and decide whether to hire one of them.
Commissioner Mauro Cantalamessa said commissioners will interview Mike Matas of Cortland, Lake County Ohio’s budget director, and Larry Collins of Saline, Mich., former assistant city administrator for the city of Ann Arbor, Mich.
Those were the two people recommended to the commissioners by a volunteer committee consisting of Darlene St. George, Howland Township administrator; Dennis Blank, onetime Warren mayoral candidate; and James Dignan, president and CEO of Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
Cantalamessa and Richard Jackson, county human-resources director, will interview each candidate separately.
Commissioner Dan Polivka and Jackson likewise will interview the candidates separately.
Commissioner Frank Fuda said he plans to interview the two candidates in the same way to be better informed, but he disagrees with the need for a county administrator.
In other business Wednesday, the commissioners approved the reappointment of Ron Klingle, CEO of Avalon Holdings Inc., and Sam Covelli, CEO of Covelli Enterprises, to another four-year term on the Western Reserve Port Authority, which oversees operation of Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna.
Warren resident Janet Hazlett provided the commissioners with statistical data regarding ridership on the Western Reserve Transit Authority’s Warren Express bus route that travels between Youngstown and Warren.
Total riders increased by 1,570 in 2017 over 2016 – from 54,588 to 56,158.
Hazlett said she has been advised the WRTA route, which runs every two hours, is scheduled to begin operating on an hourly basis.
