COLUMBIANA

Columbiana American Legion Riders is announcing that the ninth annual Chili Cook Off will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at The Vineyards at Pine Lake, 14101 state Route 7, at the banquet center. There will be 12 contestants with one first-place winner, and two runners-up. A 50-50 drawing, silent auction and gun raffle also will take place. Tickets are available for $10 at the door or $8 if purchased before Sunday at Dynamic Auto Body in Columbiana.

Proceeds will benefit veterans’ causes; the local Blue Star Mothers, Chapter 2, North Canton, which is a support group for mothers and families of active duty and veterans; and Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 122, Salem, which supports local veterans who are disabled. This is the fourth year the Blue Star Mothers will sell baked goods at the event and raise funds to donate to the Patriot Project and Reach Across America. The Patriot Project gives chiropractic services to any veteran who has served since the 9/11 attacks at no charge. Reach Across America ensures that the national cemeteries have flags on veterans’ graves on Memorial Day.

Blue Star Mothers is a 501(c)(3) organization chartered by Congress in 1942. It has more than 13,500 volunteer members around the nation, and any donations received benefit veterans 100 percent.
