Mayor Jamael Tito Brown is having an inaugural ball Saturday at Stambaugh Auditorium’s Tyler Grand Ballroom, 1000 Fifth Ave.

The formal-attire event starts at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $75 each and can be obtained by calling the Stambaugh Auditorium box office at 330-747-5175 or Sabrina Brandon at 330-531-2989 or by email at sabrinab210@yahoo.com.

Proceeds from the event will go to local charities.

The event will feature live music, dancing and food.

Safe, truck taken

YOUNGSTOWN

A 73-year-old man was bound and his gun safe and pickup truck were taken Tuesday after two men forced their way inside his home in the 700 block of East Midlothian Boulevard.

Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the police department’s detective bureau said officers were called about 1:30 p.m. and found the man suffering from a head injury.

Paramedics were called and the victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Bobovnyik said after the two men got inside and bound the victim, they were able to take the safe, which had several handguns and long guns.

They used the victim’s pickup truck to get away, Bobovnyik said.

Both men who got inside were armed and they were wearing masks, he said.

Safe stolen

YOUNGSTOWN

A North Side man told police Monday someone wearing a hockey mask and carrying a gun burst into his home in the 1500 block of Bryson Street and stole a safe.

The 60-year-old man called police about 10 a.m., saying after the man grabbed the safe, he jumped into a car on Kensington Avenue and the car drove away.

Police searched the area for the gun and could not find it, reports said.
