boardman Officials to apply for $9K grant

Trustees authorized the zoning and development department to apply for a $9,000 grant through Eastgate Regional Council of Governments to help the department develop an active transportation plan.

The department will look at ways to improve biking and walking access.

Road Superintendent Marilyn Kenner told the board she will be looking into the possibility of putting fiber additives in asphalt used for paving.

She said the additives increase the life of the pavement and reduces potholes.

Krista Beniston, zoning and development director, updated the board on gathering of public input for a comprehensive plan her department will put together.

A community forum took place last week, and a second one is scheduled for 5 p.m. Feb. 5 at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center.

Residents and users of Boardman services also are invited to take an online survey, available at www.boardmantwp.com. Beniston reported the survey so far has received nearly 350 responses.

Trustees also authorized the police department to auction off five unused vehicle at its meeting this week.
